I got the news of the passing on of my friend and dear mentor, Archbishop Emeritus Paul Bakyenga while out of the country on work.

I got to know the late Archbishop in his later years and found him an extremely wise, humble, educator and humorous man of God.

He transcended the barriers of religion that often stand in the way of truly seeing and hearing people from inside out in our country; he spoke to you directly as a parent, gave very deep unvarnished advice when you needed it and he was a great listener.

My last conversation with him sometime before covid lockdowns was at Rubaga where I visited him at his house along with Fr. Louis Turyamureeba, formerly of Kanungu, Nyakatare parish. He was jovial, full life. I will miss him

May the Lord give him Rest
